Harvest Festival

Harvest Festival

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported our Harvest Festival service. All the children took part – singing, sharing Harvest poems and readings and we even enjoyed some dancing for the Harvest Samba Song! This year we again collected non-perishable goods for the Clay Cross Food bank, a local charity supporting local people. Thank you  for all the contributions – the Food Bank staff were delighted to see how much we had collected and would be happy for anyone to visit the Food bank and see how it operates and distributes to families in crisis.

Terrific Scientific – ‘School of Excellence’ Status

BBC Terrific Scientific has had a brilliant year! Pupils all over the country, including Stretton Handley, have carried out investigations and up loaded results onto the BBC interactive website and to university scientists. Children have: tested  their taste buds; found out about different types of water in the UK; explored forces, including wind resistance; investigated how the clock changes affect response times and explored trees in the school grounds, carrying out their own research. By taking part, children have collected and submitted vital data.  Without this data, universities would not be able to further their research so we have been making an important contribution to science!

As a result of the hard work and dedication of our staff and children our school has been awarded Terrific Scientific ‘School of Excellence’ status. This award is supported by the Primary Science Quality Mark and the BBC. We have received the  BBC Terrific Scientific Certificate of Excellence and a digital logo to use on our website/ letterheads etc.

For further information please see our Terrific Scientific page.

Woolley Moor Show – 12th August 2017

The photographs show children working on the scarecrow for the Woolley Moor Village Show. This year the scarecrow theme is ‘occupations’ and we have made a ‘lollipop person!’. Thank you very much to governors, Mrs Gill and Mrs Cooke, for helping us with the scarecrow.

Stretton Handley school children have sent entries for the Stretton Handley art class – judged in three age groups. The theme is ‘Circle of Life’. Younger children have created a close-up views of nature and mini-beasts using pastels and older children have created their own ‘Four Seasons Tree’ pictures using mixed media.

There are also classes for all children to enter. See details here………..

Bronze Ambassador Event

Bronze Ambassador Event Report!!!

On Tuesday 20th June 2017 the whole school took part in our Quad kids athletics event. The 4 events the children did were: long run (2 laps of the field), short run (50m sprint), standing long jump and howler javelin throw.

First of all the infants came out. We split them into 4 groups and sent them off to their first event. The children completed all 4 events with us running them and LS taking lovely photos.

Next the juniors came out and did the same.

Both groups really listened to us and made it fun for us and for them.

We have worked out the results and we have decided on a boy winner and a girl winner for each class.

The results sheets are here for people to see

The winners are …

Woodpecker class – HW and LH

Peregrine class – LH and LR

Kingfisher class – MK and RL

Attendance Information

Attendance Policy

Good Attendance means..bar chart poster

  • In September 2013 the Education (Pupil Registration) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2013 came into force. These regulations make it clear that Headteachers should not grant approval for any leave of absence during term-time, including holidays, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
  • Any requests should be on an official school absence request form and handed into the school office for consideration prior to any holiday/leave arrangements being made.
  • You may be issued with a Penalty Notice should leave be taken which is not authorised.

There has been some uncertainty recently regarding regulations about unauthorised holidays in term time and the issuing of penalty notices. We have received DCC guidance to clarify that, from September 2017 penalty notices may be issued for holidays in term time that are unauthorised, regardless of a child’s overall percentage attendance.
