Sport Relief Mile – 16 March

Mr Cooke has organised a sponsored event on Friday 16th March to raise funds for Sport Relief. Parents/ Grandparents are invited to join us for a Sport Relief Mile (running or walking!) and extra sponsor forms are available in school if required. Please meet us on the Jubilee Playing field for a 2.00pm start. Children may then go home early with an adult. Any unaccompanied children will walk back to school with staff and should be collected as usual at 3.30pm. Please check book bags for information and sponsor forms.

Balancability

Balance bikes have no pedals and are designed to help children to learn to balance on their own and ride a bike without the need for stabilisers. The children had a great time and took part in an afternoon of fun games and activities.

Master Blaster Laser Tag Nov 23

Never mind going to a laser quest experience, the Master Blaster mobile laser tag arena is coming to our school hall on 23 November! Our KS2 children have the opportunity to experience an exciting range of games either as individuals or as part of a team.

Funding for this activity has been provided by P4YP ‘Positive For Young People’ who are a non-profit organisation based at the Hub, Gladstone Buildings in Clay Cross.

The Action Sports activities provided by the Extreme wheels team, are fast, furious and a huge amount of fun for anyone age 7+. See Bolsover District council’s website; for information.

Cross Country

On Thursday 12th October, the year 4, 5 and 6 cross country runners went up to Tupton Hall School for North East Derbyshire cross country event. A team of 9 children attended from Stretton Handley with over 150 children at the event!

The year 4 course was 1500m, the year 5 course, 2000m and the year 6 course 2500m, all across fields and up and down steep slopes.

Stretton Handley had their best ever results at this event and they were as follows:

Year 4 boys race – GT 2nd out of 26 (silver medal!!)

Year 4 girls race – BP 5th, FT 6th, LK 7th out of 28.

Year 5 boys race – RJ 17th out of 27.

Year 5 girls race – LH 1st out of 24 (gold medal!!!)

Year 6 boys race – LM 1st out of 25 (gold medal!!!)

Year 6 girls race – IT 5th, MT 15th out of 24.

The children did a fantastic job representing the school and shocked and surprised many with their incredible results showing great determination and fitness!

School Games Afternoon

Everyone enjoyed a great afternoon taking part in athletics,running, relay, javelin, skipping, sack race etc. The weather was kind — no rain and not too much sun. Well done to the blue team – winners overall this year.

Bronze Ambassador Event

Bronze Ambassador Event Report!!!

On Tuesday 20^th June 2017 the whole school took part in our Quad kids athletics event. The 4 events the children did were: long run (2 laps of the field), short run (50m sprint), standing long jump and howler javelin throw.

First of all the infants came out. We split them into 4 groups and sent them off to their first event. The children completed all 4 events with us running them and LS taking lovely photos.

Next the juniors came out and did the same.

Both groups really listened to us and made it fun for us and for them.

We have worked out the results and we have decided on a boy winner and a girl winner for each class.

Quad Kid athletics 15th July 2016

Quad Kid Athletics 15th July 2016 – Tupton Hall

KS2 children are again invited to take part with cluster schools in the Quad Kids Activity day at Tupton Hall on Friday 15th July. Children should wear their school PE kit as this is a school event and also please remember suncream and water bottle. Please see separate letter for further details and permission slips. Thank you.

School Games Mark GOLD 2015-16

Well, it’s official. We are delighted that Stretton Handley have again been awarded School Games Mark Gold Award! Well done everyone and a special thank you to Mr Cooke for leading our school PE and sport and coordinating and organising our Games Mark application.

Bronze Ambassador Event

On Tuesday the 21^st of June 2016 Stretton Handley primary school held a quad-kids event run by the four bronze ambassadors (HR, MK, RL, TB). The four activities the children took part in were howler javelin, long run, short run and long jump.

The winners in class 1 were GT and BP. The winners in class 2 were LR and GH. And the winners in class 3 were TM and ER.

Photos and results tables from the event are on display in the school hall.

Everyone enjoyed the event and performed really well.

Sport Relief Mile!

On Friday 18th March the Stretton Handley pupils, parents, staff and some members of the local community went down to the Jubilee playing fields to take part in a sponsored mile in order to raise money for sport relief.

The weather held out long enough for over 80 people to take part in completing the mile, some running, some walking, (some people getting a lift!).

Everyone appeared to enjoy the event and everyone did a fantastic job as over £1000 has been raised for Sport Relief! This is such a fantastic effort from a school of our size so well done to everyone that donated and collected!
