Clay Cross and District Music Festival

Clay Cross and District Music Festival 2017.
Children in KS2 in September have the wonderful opportunity to take part in the Clay Cross & District Music Festival, working with children from the local cluster of schools performing as a choir in a fantastic venue. Rachel Wilkes from the School Music Partnership is leading rehearsals and each school in the festival is contributing and subsidising the cost of the event. Some money is raised through ticket sales and raffle. (Details for tickets nearer the time – last year tickets were £3.50 each). There is no charge for children for to take part.
There will be rehearsals during school time at local schools and commitment to the day rehearsal at the Winding Wheel, Chesterfield. Click here for a list of dates and venues: Clay Cross and District Music Festival dates 2017 Parents will need to be able to arrange transport to and from rehearsals. We hope some of you may be able to arrange car sharing. Parents will also need to be able to arrange transport to and from the rehearsals at Tupton Hall and the Winding Wheel.
We do hope your child will take advantage of this opportunity and support our school by joining in. Our school often receives comments about the wonderful singing voices and musical talent of the children.

Woolley Moor Show – 12th August 2017

The photographs show children working on the scarecrow for the Woolley Moor Village Show. This year the scarecrow theme is ‘occupations’ and we have made a ‘lollipop person!’. Thank you very much to governors, Mrs Gill and Mrs Cooke, for helping us with the scarecrow.

Stretton Handley school children have sent entries for the Stretton Handley art class – judged in three age groups. The theme is ‘Circle of Life’. Younger children have created a close-up views of nature and mini-beasts using pastels and older children have created their own ‘Four Seasons Tree’ pictures using mixed media.

There are also classes for all children to enter. See details here………..

Bronze Ambassador Event

Bronze Ambassador Event Report!!!

On Tuesday 20th June 2017 the whole school took part in our Quad kids athletics event. The 4 events the children did were: long run (2 laps of the field), short run (50m sprint), standing long jump and howler javelin throw.

First of all the infants came out. We split them into 4 groups and sent them off to their first event. The children completed all 4 events with us running them and LS taking lovely photos.

Next the juniors came out and did the same.

Both groups really listened to us and made it fun for us and for them.

We have worked out the results and we have decided on a boy winner and a girl winner for each class.

The results sheets are here for people to see

The winners are …

Woodpecker class – HW and LH

Peregrine class – LH and LR

Kingfisher class – MK and RL

Brackenfield Well Dressing 2017

We hope you enjoyed your half term break and had the opportunity to visit the well dressings and flower festival at Brackenfield. The children did a fantastic job designing this year’s board which depicted various computer games. How many can you spot?

Guinness World Record Walk4WildLife Update

Thank you to everyone who took part or sponsored the children for the Guinness World Record Walk4Wildlife event. We were joined by children representing our cluster of schools and set off on the Woolley Moor Trail. At 2.15pm, the designated time, there  were 73 people walking. It will take a few weeks for the record for the ‘greatest number of  children across the country walking at one time’ to be verified by the Guinness Book of Records but soon all children who took part will be able to call themselves world record holders! We raised a fantastic £319.50 through sponsorship for our chosen wildlife charity the RSPB. Well done everyone and thank you again.
