‘Great Fire of London’ experiment

Great Fire of London!

Woodpeckers used cardboard boxes to make some houses for their Great Fire of London topic. We carried out an exciting experiment in the playground. The buildings were set on fire and we could see for ourselves how quickly the fire spread from ‘building’to ‘building’.

Our Blue tit Chicks are Growing Fast

Blue tits have been nesting in a box around the back of the school. This box is fitted with a colour camera which uploads snapshots to the school website. The eggs started to hatch on 14th May and we now have 10 chicks that are due to fledge around the time we return to school after the half term. To follow their progress, visit our wildlife blog and watch the live feed. Don’t forget to leave a comment about what you have seen.

Well Dressing on display 26-28 May

Have a look at these photos of this year’s fantastic school well dressing. The theme is Children’s TV. Can you spot your favourite characters?

We would like to say a special thank you to Mrs Mahadevan for organising and coordinating work on the well dressing and also to Mrs Gill, Mrs Edwards and Mrs Fox for working so hard with the children to make sure the well dressing was completed on time. This year, our well dressing will be displayed outside Holy Trinity Church, Brackenfield, as part of the Flower Festival. The festival starts at 10 am on Saturday 26th May and continues over the bank holiday weekend.

Please try to go along and see the children’s hard work and support the Flower Festival.

Easter Service and Open Day

Easter Service

Children led the Easter Service with readings, prayers and singing before having refreshments and taking part in an Easter Egg Hunt in the school grounds.

Peregrine Class also shared their “Walk Like an Egyptian” Dance which they had performed at the Dance Platform event at the Winding Wheel in Chesterfield last week.

Easter Egg Design Competition

During the Open morning there was an opportunity for parents to see their children’s books and to have a tour of the school and classrooms to to see displays of work. Everyone was very impressed with the Woodpecker class artwork and writing and the Kingfisher and Peregrine ‘Ancient Egypt’homework tasks.

Harvest Festival

Harvest Festival

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported our Harvest Festival service. All the children took part – singing, sharing Harvest poems and readings and we even enjoyed some dancing for the Harvest Samba Song! This year we again collected non-perishable goods for the Clay Cross Food bank, a local charity supporting local people. Thank you  for all the contributions – the Food Bank staff were delighted to see how much we had collected and would be happy for anyone to visit the Food bank and see how it operates and distributes to families in crisis.

Woolley Moor Show – 12th August 2017

The photographs show children working on the scarecrow for the Woolley Moor Village Show. This year the scarecrow theme is ‘occupations’ and we have made a ‘lollipop person!’. Thank you very much to governors, Mrs Gill and Mrs Cooke, for helping us with the scarecrow.

Stretton Handley school children have sent entries for the Stretton Handley art class – judged in three age groups. The theme is ‘Circle of Life’. Younger children have created a close-up views of nature and mini-beasts using pastels and older children have created their own ‘Four Seasons Tree’ pictures using mixed media.

There are also classes for all children to enter. See details here………..
