Red carpet movie premiere – Thursday 26th June 2.00pm

RED CARPET MOVIE PREMIERE – Thursday 26th June 2.00pm

Parents of all children in school are invited to bring their cameras and join us for the ‘movie premiere’ on Thursday afternoon. This is the exciting culmination of several weeks work and we would like all children to join in by coming to school in their smart clothes (or getting changed at lunchtime).Boys might like to wear a tie or dickie bow and girls their party dresses.

At 2.00pm parents will be able to come into the hall and photograph the children as they enter from the classrooms and walk down the red carpet to present their work.

Y4, Y5,and Y6 will be sharing/ presenting the work from their Arts Award Project. This joint project with Ashover Primary has been funded by a grant from ‘Mighty Creatives’. Sara Giddens from’ Mighty Creatives’ will be joining us during the afternoon to see the children’s work and to meet with staff to evaluate the project. The children have taken part in various workshops including film, animation and photography. They have then worked in groups to plan and make either a short film, animation or photographic slideshow. These have been edited together into a short film presentation to be shared on Thursday afternoon. (We are hoping the DVD will be available for parents to order their own copy at £3.80 each) We would like to thank Howard Pratt and Tupton Hall School for sharing their ICT facilities and resources and Tupton Hall students who supported the animation ‘Inspire’ workshops on 6th June.

Rec/ Y1, Y2 and Y3 will also be sharing their short film which is being entered into the National Society Church of England competition. The theme is about what makes a church school distinctive. The children talk about their learning and the christian values that underpin our school ethos eg creativity, perseverance. (After the competition has been judged in July, the film will be available to view on our school website.)

After the presentations there will be refreshments and a chance to look at the children’s Arts Award log books which record the Y4,5,6 children’s Arts Award journey. Children may go home with an adult after the presentations. Any children who do not have a parent attending will stay in school to be collected as usual at 3.30pm. Please let us know in advance if your child will be leaving early with another adult. Thank you.

We look forward to seeing you on the 26th at 2.00pm.

Woodpecker Class Eggs-perience!

chicks01

We have had a fantastic two weeks watching our 10 eggs, which arrived on Monday, hatch into chicks. It was lovely to have first hand experience of this exciting process and it was fascinating to watch them grow. Go to the school Wildlife Page for more information and pictures.

Don’t forget to look out for the Blue Tit chicks hatching out in our Colour Birdcam box around the middle of next week!

Under the Sea!

Edible Coral Reef- we had a great time researching, learning and then making some delicious coral reef polyps! We made the body of the polyp out of a marshmallow and covered it in white chocolate to represent it’s exoskeleton. We then used a toothpick to stick in pieces of strawberry lace, which became the tentacles. We finished off decorating the marshmallow with brightly coloured sprinkles just like the amazing colours found underwater. We stuck all the polyps together just like a piece of real coral reef. Finally we all enjoyed tucking into our delicious creations! Yum!

We have been so impressed by the imaginative and creative homework projects that have been arriving in school over the term. The children have blown us away with an amazing selection of 3D underwater creatures, presentations, computer research and pictures that they have created!

Well done Woodpeckers!

Woodpecker’s trip to Medieval Britain

Last Thursday, the Woodpeckers travelled back in the TARDIS to Medieval Britain. They braved the cold weather and went into the school grounds to learn what it was like to live during the Medieval times. They learnt that life wasn’t easy for people living in 1200 AD and that it took a lot of time and hard work to do something simple like toast a piece of bread. They swept the ground of leaves, dug a hole, collected stones to mark out the edge of the fire and gathered wood to burn.  Once the fire was lit the children toasted their home made bread by the fire. They all had a fantastic time but understood just how hard work it must have been to live during the Medieval times.

Wonderful Woodpeckers!

Since adopting the name of ‘Woodpeckers’, the Infants have been creating some fabulous artwork. Last week they painted some Great Spotted Woodpeckers to decorated the entrance to their classroom. During computer class they used Dazzle 03 to produce these fantastic pieces of digital artwork.
