‘Chocolate by Design’ Trip Photos

KS2 had a fantastic visit to ‘Chocolate by Design‘ in Chesterfield. We arrived to be led through the small shop, on Packers Row, past the most delicious looking chocolates. More was to follow to tickle our senses. The aromas of chocolate greeted us as we descended the stairs into the cellars where all the handmade chocolates are made. Derek gave us a short talk about the origins of chocolate and how it is made, all the time quizzing the children to make sure they were listening. Sometimes chocolate bribes were used!

The best was to follow when we moved into the chocolate making room. We made chocolate mobile phones, fish, a massive egg and had a ‘decorating chocolate lolly’ competition. Of course we had to taste everything and we may just have got a little chocolate on ourselves!

Food Glorious Food Topic

During the ‘Food, Glorious Food’ topic KS2 children have been learning about a balanced diet as part  of a healthy lifestyle, finding out about teeth and digestion and reading and writing stories and poems about food, teeth and eating.

They have also been learning about some artists who make food sculptures and paintings and then having a go themselves as part of their creative homework.

Thank you to everyone who supported Comic Relief by donating £1 or more raising a grand total of £84. The Children looked great dressed as chefs and cooks and the Infant children made some lovely biscuits for everyone to eat!

Big Schools’ Birdwatch 2015

birdfoodThis term Kingfisher Class spent some of their tuck shop enterprise money on a large sack of good quality bird food. They also purchased a bin complete with scoop to keep the food in good condition.

The purchase has certainly helped swell the number of birds visiting the school grounds and the children were rewarded with a very successful Big Schools’ Birdwatch. For the full results of this year’s survey, visit the school’s Wildlife Blog and find out about the new bird on the block!
