Crich Tramway Museum Visit

Woodpeckers and Y3 had a great day out at Crich Tramway museum on Monday 8th July.  They had a ride on a selection of different trams and were complimented on how well they changed the seating position of the trams for the return journeys!  They enjoyed a sculpture trail walk, picnic lunch in the park and sampled an ice cream and some old fashioned sweets from the sweet shop.

Open Morning – Y2 Bible presentation

Thank you to everyone who came along to Collective Worship with Reverend Lawrence on 3 July. During the service the Year 2 children were presented with a bible by Mrs Fox – on behalf of the Fox family. Afterwards there were refreshments and the opportunity for children to show parents round the classrooms and to share their work.

Coleman Cup Football Tournament

Stretton Handley played some of their best football of the season at the Colman Cup on Friday 7th June. They beat Holmgate and North Wingfield in the group stage to qualify for the quarter finals where they just lost out 2-1. A fantastic performance by our small school.

Well dressing – Fairy tales 2019

The Brackenfield festival took place over he weekend 24-27 May. Here is a photograph of the Stretton Handley CE Primary Well dressing that was on display. The children and staff worked hard to get the well dressing ready on time as it was a short week for children with the school being used as a Polling station. A special thank you to Mrs Mahadevan for organising and coordinating the well dressing and to Mrs Gill, Mrs Cook, Mrs Fox and Mrs Wilson for their help and support. The theme this year was Fairy Tales and the well dressing incorporated children’s ideas from ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and ‘Three Billy Goat’s Gruff’. Thank you to all those who went along to support the festival at Brackenfield.

They were just pipped to the post by Deer Park A  in the final losing our by 15 runs.  An excellent performance by all the team.

Paws, Claws and Whiskers Topic

Thank you to all the parents who brought in a pet during our ‘Paws, Claws and Whiskers’ topic.  Woodpecker class have learnt so much about lots of different pets, and the importance of keeping them happy and healthy.  We also enjoyed having the chance to stroke and pat many of the animals.

Roman catapults

As part of the KS2 ‘Rotten Romans’ topic, children developed their Enterprise skills by working in mixed age groups to design, make and evaluate Roman catapults. They went outside to test the catapults for distance, height and accuracy. Here are some photos.

Easter Celebration Day 11 April 2019

Children worked in family groups and rotated round a series of egg-citing Easter workshops, egg-sploring the Easter Story: designing an Easter garden; making unleavened bread; creating Easter crosses and Palm leaves and learning about Easter Week. They enjoyed an Easter Egg Hunt outside, egg-xamining the school grounds very carefully to seek out their own mini-eggs and making sure they did not pass on secret information about where other eggs were hidden! In the afternoon children created their own Easter cards to take home. At the end of the day parents were invited into school to have a look round at the egg-cellent work.
