Diwali Day Thursday 6th Nov

We have organised a Diwali day at school on Thursday 6th November. The children will work in mixed age ‘family’ groups and take part in a variety of workshops to learn about why and how this Hindu and Sikh festival is celebrated, including making rangoli patterns and mendhi designs as well as finding out why Diwali is a festival of light. Later on in the term as we approach Christmas – the christian festival of light , the children will be able to explore the similarities and differences in how the festivals are celebrated

There is no charge for the workshops as staff are running the activities and school will provide the materials. However we would like your help. Does anyone have any resources that we could borrow and display? eg postcards, Diwali cards, pictures, photographs of Diwali celebrations or saris, Sikh or Hindu jewellery etc. If so please send them in before Thursday. Thank you very much.

Clay Cross and District Music festival rehearsals

Clay Cross and District Music Festival rehearsals.

Rachel Wilkes has already been into school to introduce some of the songs for this year’s festival. We would like as many of our KS2 children – September Year 3, 4 , 5 and Year 6 to take part as possible. Please return permission slips to Mrs Dunbar or the school office.

We are part of Choir A and, this year, the first rehearsals in the autumn term are being held at our school – Stretton Handley, so there is no need to organise transport. However parents will need to organise to transport their children to and collect from the two rehearsals at Tupton Hall and the dress rehearsal and performance at the Winding Wheel in Chesterfield. Last year many parents shared transport between themselves. See details and further information on separate letter.

Playground development – Tuesday 24th June

We are delighted to inform everyone the our bid for lottery funding through ‘Awards4 All’ has been successful and we have been awarded the maximum £10,000 towards developing our outdoor provision. The company ‘Play Force’ will be installing an outdoor decking / staging area at the side of the upper playground, a covered wooden seating area for quiet reflection and for use as an outdoor classroom on the lower playground and an ‘imagination bridge’ in the EYFS play area. Installation begins on Tuesday 24th June and we ask that everyone is extra careful during the next few days when coming onto the playground and to  keep their younger children well away from any materials and equipment when waiting for pupils at the end of school.

We would also like also remind parents and adults collecting children after school, that no children should be using the school equipment, entering the EYFS area, or using the trim trail on the lower playground etc during or after school even if parents are watching them.  Children only have access to the equipment and outdoor areas under staff supervision during school time, at play-time and lunch-time. This is for insurance and health and safety purposes. Thank you for your understanding.

Red carpet movie premiere – Thursday 26th June 2.00pm

RED CARPET MOVIE PREMIERE – Thursday 26th June 2.00pm

Parents of all children in school are invited to bring their cameras and join us for the ‘movie premiere’ on Thursday afternoon. This is the exciting culmination of several weeks work and we would like all children to join in by coming to school in their smart clothes (or getting changed at lunchtime).Boys might like to wear a tie or dickie bow and girls their party dresses.

At 2.00pm parents will be able to come into the hall and photograph the children as they enter from the classrooms and walk down the red carpet to present their work.

Y4, Y5,and Y6 will be sharing/ presenting the work from their Arts Award Project. This joint project with Ashover Primary has been funded by a grant from ‘Mighty Creatives’. Sara Giddens from’ Mighty Creatives’ will be joining us during the afternoon to see the children’s work and to meet with staff to evaluate the project. The children have taken part in various workshops including film, animation and photography. They have then worked in groups to plan and make either a short film, animation or photographic slideshow. These have been edited together into a short film presentation to be shared on Thursday afternoon. (We are hoping the DVD will be available for parents to order their own copy at £3.80 each) We would like to thank Howard Pratt and Tupton Hall School for sharing their ICT facilities and resources and Tupton Hall students who supported the animation ‘Inspire’ workshops on 6th June.

Rec/ Y1, Y2 and Y3 will also be sharing their short film which is being entered into the National Society Church of England competition. The theme is about what makes a church school distinctive. The children talk about their learning and the christian values that underpin our school ethos eg creativity, perseverance. (After the competition has been judged in July, the film will be available to view on our school website.)

After the presentations there will be refreshments and a chance to look at the children’s Arts Award log books which record the Y4,5,6 children’s Arts Award journey. Children may go home with an adult after the presentations. Any children who do not have a parent attending will stay in school to be collected as usual at 3.30pm. Please let us know in advance if your child will be leaving early with another adult. Thank you.

We look forward to seeing you on the 26th at 2.00pm.

After school Cross-country – Thursday 6th March

CROSS COUNTRY at Tupton Hall.

The cross country competition takes place on Thursday 6th March from 3.45pm to 5.15pm at Tupton Hall School.

The children will need to be transported to and from the event and parents are warmly encouraged to stay and support and cheer on our school. The children need trainers , shorts or jogging bottoms, t-shirt and a bottle of water. They can get changed in school before 3.30pm so that they can be collected and leave school on time.

The main competition is for Year 4,5 and 6 children and the fun competition, which is a shorter distance is  for Year 2 and Year 3 children.

This event is really good for physical exercise and fitness; it is also the chance to represent your school and good practice for the SPORT RELIEF MILE ( Friday 21st March) as well as being good fun so it would be fantastic to get as many children involved as possible.

In previous years children have experienced great pride in representing their school and also in themselves for the achievement of taking part and completing the challenge.

Letters and slips were sent home week beginning 23rd February. Please return these to school to confirm your child’s attendance and transport arrangements. Thank you.
