Audit of School Fund 2017/2018
The school fund account for 2017/18 has been audited by an independent colleague from another school and found to be a true and accurate record of transactions. The main items of expense during the year 2017-18 were: New interactive smart boards for all 3 classrooms; whole school visit to the pantomime in Mansfield; KS2 visit to Creswell Crags, School Music Association for the Clay Cross Music Festival; Partake History Theatre workshops across the school; Lea Green residential subsidy; uniform payments and purchase of first aid supplies. A copy of the audited account is available in school. Thank you.
We are looking forward to the whole school visit to Mansfield Palace Theatre on Monday 17 December, to see Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The coach leaves at 8.45am so please ensure children arrive at school at 8.30am to be registered. School is subsidising the whole cost of the coach and tickets and will provide drinks and snacks during the interval. Please check book bags for letter and slips to sign and return to school.
On Thursday 22 November, the whole school had a great time learning all about Diwali, a festival of light. The children worked in mixed family groups finding out about the story of Rama and Sita, and why and how Diwali is celebrated by Hindus and Sikhs. At the end of the day we welcomed parents and visitors to look round the displays of children’s work. Thank you to those who contributed items to share and display. Here are some photographs.

Reminder:
Information regarding term time holiday requests
The publicity surrounding the Isle of Wight case a couple of years ago, regarding unauthorised leave during term-time caused confusion for parents, schools and local authorities in England. Essentially, the Isle of Wight High Court ruling changed the way in which Magistrates are required to consider evidence provided by local authorities for term-time holiday prosecutions following non-payment of penalty notices.
In September 2013, The Education ( Pupil registration) (England) ( amendment) regulations 2013 came into force. These regulations make it clear that Headteachers should not grant approval for any leave of absence during term time, including holidays, unless there are exceptional circumstances. These regulations also state that holidays cannot be authorised retrospectively. Any requests should be on an official school absence request form and handed to the school office for consideration prior to any holiday/ leave arrangements being made. You may be issued with a penalty notice should leave be taken which is not authorised. If unpaid this could lead to prosecution under section 444(1) of the Education Act 1996. The regulations have not have not changed and leave must only be approved in ‘exceptional circumstances’.
Since then schools have received further clarification and guidance. From September 2017 any holidays in term time, that are unauthorised, may incur a penalty notice, regardless of the child’s overall attendance percentage. This information is displayed in school and reminders given in newsletters and on the school website.

There has been some uncertainty regarding regulations about unauthorised holidays in term time and the issuing of penalty notices. We have received DCC guidance to clarify that, from September 2017 penalty notices may be issued for holidays in term time that are unauthorised, regardless of a child’s overall percentage attendance. A copy of this was sent to parents in June 2017 and also displayed in the school entrance (from June 2017).
