If you continue back up Temperance hill, after a piece of grassland, turn left and enter a narrow track – sometimes a little overgrown. This is Well Lane so call because the water wells up from the ground! Walk down the stone edged steps (a sign of an old track) and at the bottom you will see a bridge over a clear stream, so fresh that freshwater shrimps can be found. It was down here that the well was situated where the residents of Temperance Hill cottages got their water. You can study nature at first hand down here. Listen for the birds and other wildlife, look for many types of grasses, trees and wild flowers, lift a stone and see signs of past, present and possibly future wild life in mini beast form!
Ascend from the stream and at the top you will rejoin Beresford Lane. Turn left and retrace your steps past the school until you come to a path next to new houses. Go down the path and you will come out opposite the White Horse Inn.
