school sign

The Spring Terms brought with them the customary snow flurries causing the school to close early one day and to stay closed the next, in common with most schools in Derbyshire. The gardening club worked hard to bring a bit of sunshine to the front of the school with the planting of some very colourful spring flowering plants. A new school sign, provided by Mr Sims, also helped bring a fresh new look to our school grounds.

Tsunami Appeal

At the end of January we held a concert in aid of the victims of the Tsunami disaster. The children sang songs, some new and some old favourites. The raffle and the collection raised a staggering £415. Many thanks for coming in such large numbers and for your generosity.

Q.E.D!

It's official, we are a quality school. Having first achieved our Basic Skills Quality Mark back in February 2002, we are one of only ninety schools in Derbyshire to have been granted this award for a second time. The award was presented by Mr Shaw from the Education Department at a special assembly during March.

Plucky Pupils!

Our guitar group has been meeting for a few weeks now and currently has around 24 members, including two members of staff! We have split into two groups which meet on Monday or Friday lunchtimes. We are learning the names of the notes and have so far looked at E, F and G on the top string and B, C and D on the second string. Some still struggle with the fact that the top string is actually the one nearest to the floor (named because of its pitch rather than its position). We are also learning chords so that we will be able to accompany songs. We have learned how to play a simple G major chord and the Monday group have just been introduced to a D major chord. One more chord and we'll be up to Status Quo's standard!

Tupton Gymnastics

Year 6 were treated to a gym, dance and trampolining display by pupils at Tupton Hall.

First Aid in the Workplace

Members of staff have successfully completed a training course in first aid run by St Johns Ambulance.

Easter Celebrations

This years Easter celebrations included a Easter bonnet and egg decorating competition, which had a high standard of entry. The children acted out the Easter story, with songs, hymns and readings, to a packed congregation in St Mark's Church. After the service the children returned to school for an Easter egg hunt and a picnic lunch.
