The Making of a Well Dressing

Watch our award winning video on the "Making of a Well Dressing">>

Clay frame Five days before the display, the clay is laid out in wooden frames. When it isn't being worked with, the clay has to be covered with plastic sheets to prevent it drying out.
Pricking out The design, which is marked out on tracing paper, is laid over the clay. Small sticks are used to prick out the design into the clay through the paper.
Lining with wool After removing the paper, black wool is pressed into the clay to outline the design.
Many natural materials such as seeds, flowers, bark and wool are pressed into the clay to compose the picture.
