The bark is rough, silvery and flaky. In the past they used the bark for paper.
The silver birch tree can grow up to 25 metres tall and bigger. The tree looks weepy because the twigs are hanging down.
The leaves are single, and they are an oval shape.The green leaves are 3cm long. Birch flowers are called catkins.
When the twig buds are attacked by either a tiny mite or fungus a bundle of tiny twigs forms. This is called witches broom.
