sycamore

small maple
The maple is a broadleaf tree. It belongs to a small family of trees which includes the Sycamore. Some grow as small trees or bushes but some like the sycamore grow up to 30m high.
The leaves are lobed and hand like. In the autumn, the leaves change to all shades of red, orange and yellow.
It has winged fruit with seeds inside it.The fruit stays on all year round. In winter the fruit falls off like helicopters so that they are spread far away.
In old sycamore trees the bark often flakes off in plates. (see picture on the left)

The picture to the right shows maple bark which is ridged.

The Canadian flag has a maple leaf on it.
