Most of the cherry trees that are grown in the garden are ornamental. They have a good display of pink and white flowers in spring. They are small deciduous broadleaf trees. We have the narrow and the spreading types in our school grounds.

The bark is banded with yellow lines . It is pink and shiny. Some types of cherry produce good timber for making furniture.
The cherry has single, long oval leaves with toothed edges. They alternate on the twigs.
