Collective Worship

At Stretton Handley Church of England Primary School children and staff join together in a daily act of worship in order to support the promotion of Christian values throughout the whole school.

  • On four mornings Collective Worship for the whole school is taken in the hall by a member of staff.
  • On Wednesday or Thursday morning a visitor leads worship. This is the local vicar – Rev Lawrence or a member of MAST, J Coates or M Fentem.
  • Each Friday afternoon there is a special Achievement assembly. Certificates are presented for ‘Star of the week’, ‘lunchtime stars’, ‘Kind and courteous’Award and children are recognised for demonstrating any particular Christian values during the week.
  • Each term there is a School Communion service held at St Marks, led by Rev Lawrence. The children take part in singing, readings and prayer. The services are well attended by parents and members of the local community.
  • On several occasions during the year children attend special services in St Mark's Church, Handley. Such occasions include , Easter, Christmas Carol Service or Christingle Service.
  • We celebrate the Harvest, Mother's Day and Christmas with special Worship in school or at St Marks.
  • Occasionally representatives of other faiths are invited to lead the Worship.
