In this topic, the Infants studied images of children. These included photographs and also paintings by famous artists such as Degas, Modigliani and Renoir.
To begin with, the children explored many ways of making lines with different drawing materials and how to show textures.
Pencil Portraits
The children used the techniques they had learnt to help them draw portraits and self portraits with confidence.

Painted Self Portraits
These masterpieces were painted with care and great attention was given to mixing the correct colours. The frames were made from card, with a pasta design, and painted with metallic paint.
Clay Work
Self hardening clay was the chosen medium for these detailed and characterful self portraits.

"Picasso Style" Portraits
"The Sailor" by Picasso was the inspiration for these dramatic pieces of work. The children worked with a partner to create double portraits. They made the work by combining pieces from two drawings. They studied the shapes in the Picasso and enjoyed painting in a "similar" way with wild colours!
Portrait Sculptures
Finally some children explored the shape and form of the head to make colourful card sculptures.
ICT Link
Children took a "passport" style photograph of each other using the school's digital camera. The children then used a passport template set up in Textease, to design their own passport. Younger children were able to use a word bank to enter some of their details. A thumbprint was added (to make it unique) before laminating the finished passport for a professional appearance.
