On Monday 9th October 2017, the Stretton Handley team travelled to Hunloke Primary school for the first game of the season.
The team kicked off and were under pressure right from the start. The nippy Hunloke striker ran through and scored a powerful low shot to put them 1-0 after 2 minutes. Stretton Handley started to play better and an excellent tackle and pass by LR in midfield led to LM dribbling the ball down the wing only to cross for MH to smash the ball into the back of the net to equalize, 1-1. Stretton Handley started to dominate possession and after a few good saves by TH, the team started shooting more and just on half time LM hit a high shot into the roof of the net to make it 2-1.
The second half started well for Stretton and straight away LM ran through and managed to poke the ball into the bottom corner following some good work by RJ to make it 3-1. Hunloke fought back though and some excellent defending by RL, GH and LH stopped some well created chances. With 15 minutes to go Hunloke managed to score to make it a close game and they pushed for an equalizer. Luckily GT was on hand to make some excellent saves to prevent the ball going in the net.
Finally, with only 5 minutes left MH managed to pass to LM who drilled his shot into the bottom corner to make the final score 4-2 to Stretton Handley.
An excellent result for the tiny school and an excellent performance by all involved with good football and sportsmanship shown from both teams!
Well done Stretton Handley!
