On Monday 6th November Stretton Handley played host to North Wingfield in the final league game before the mid season break.
With the nights drawing in and a dark cloudy sky, Stretton kicked off the game without captain LM who was unable to play. Stretton dominated possession in the first half with some strong defending from MT, GH and RL and some good passing from MH, LR and RJ. However North Wingfield defended well and Stretton couldn’t find the net for the first 15 minutes. Eventually from a corner RL shot and hit the post and MH was there to tap in the rebound to make it 1-0.
During the half time team talk, Stretton were encouraged to shoot more to try and make the scoreline more comfortable. This proved to work as straight from kick off LR had a long range shot which flew into the corner to make it 2-0. Another attack followed and after a good tackle and pass from GT, LR managed to run through and score again to make it 3-0 and score his second goal of the game. North Wingfield then had a couple of good attacks and LH stood firm followed by some strong bravery from goalkeeper TH as he held onto the ball despite the North Wingfield striker trying to kick it.
Finally with just 5 minutes left and the light fading, MH managed to dribble down the wing and cut into the box and hit a shot into the bottom corner to make it 4-0 and score his second goal of the game.
Final score 4-0 to Stretton Handley. Another fantastic result with some skillful football on display.
The Stretton Handley winning streak continues!
